The Annual Bourne Scallop Fest Remains a Mainstay ~ September 23, 24, 25

Sprinkles on Friday did not dampen the spirits of the 42nd Annual Bourne Scallop Fest. The stormy forecast for the weekend never materialized and the Fest continues to be a signature event in New England, being named twice as a Top 100 Event in North America by the American Bus Association.
Non-stop Entertainment was phenomenal with headliners Ernie & the Automatics on Friday night, and American Idol star Siobhan Magnus, who brought the house down Saturday night with a record turnout and stellar performance.
Marie Oliva, President & CEO, stated, “Over 750 volunteers, including 250 Massachusetts Maritime Academy cadets, manned the Fest. Support from many businesses, local officials, and residents make this event an all-time success. It’s well organized, the value people get is excellent, and the return to the community immense.”
John LaFlamme, Scallop Fest Task Force Chair and Coca Cola Bottling Company Sponsor emphasized, “This is the Chamber’s premier event. It is important for fundraising so that the Chamber can provide the many services to businesses and residents in the region. It also allows the Chamber to award Scholarships to 4 area schools, 3 food pantries, and assist in the operation of 2 information centers that serve the traveling public.”
The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office helps each year to set up and break down the Fest, an invaluable commitment Sheriff Cummings has made for several years.
Barnstable Patrol Officer Steve O’Brien began opening ceremonies by singing the National Anthem. Over 30 dignitaries attended including Senate President Therese Murray, the region’s legislative delegation, local Selectmen and officials from Bourne, Sandwich and Wareham, and business sponsors.
