BOURNE – The Cape Cod Canal Region Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit will conduct a demonstration at the 39th Annual Bourne Scallop Festival. The demonstration will take place on the Festival grounds at 1 PM, Sunday, September 21st.
The Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit has been servicing the communities of Cape Cod since 1989. Currently the unit is comprised of six K9s and their Officers. Four of the K9s are trained to assist local police departments with patrol calls including searching for missing children and the elderly. The final two K9s specialize in narcotics. The unit has been responsible for the successful conviction of numerous subjects who would have otherwise eluded authorities.
Deputy Sheriffs will also be available in the Main Tent to conduct Iris Scans on children. This technology replaces the old “fingerprinting packets” that were once distributed to parents to help identify their children in case of emergency.
Marie Oliva stated: “The Chamber appreciates the dedication to community programs supported by Sheriff Jim Cummings.”
Sheriff Cummings stated: “We welcome this opportunity to demonstrate what our K9 teams are able to do and to provide parents with a vital record should the need ever arise.”
